Community Water Filtration Project – Jamrud Bazar

Location: Jamrud Bazar, District Khyber, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan

Background

For the people visiting and working in Jamrud Bazar, access to clean and safe drinking water had long been a challenge. As a busy marketplace, the area attracts thousands of people every day, including shopkeepers, families, workers and travellers.

Despite the activity and importance of the area, many people had to rely on local water supplies that were not properly filtered and could contain harmful impurities. This created potential health risks, particularly during the hot summer months when demand for drinking water increased.

The Need

A reliable source of clean drinking water was needed to serve the local community and the thousands of people passing through Jamrud Bazar.

Installing a community water filtration plant would provide convenient access to purified water, reduce reliance on untreated supplies and help protect people from the risks associated with unsafe drinking water.

Our Contribution

Recognising this need, Ibrahim Trust supported the installation of a community water filtration plant in Jamrud Bazar.

Work involved identifying an accessible location within the marketplace, preparing the site and installing a filtration system to treat the local water supply by removing harmful impurities and making it suitable for drinking.

The project was successfully completed in April 2021, providing the area with a dedicated source of purified drinking water.

The Outcome

Alhamdulillah, the completed filtration plant now provides clean and safe drinking water for approximately 2,700 beneficiaries.

Shopkeepers, families, workers and travellers can access purified water conveniently while going about their daily activities, reducing their reliance on untreated water sources and supporting better health and wellbeing.

What was once a daily concern has become easier to manage, with the filtration plant providing an essential resource for the wider community.

Through the generosity of donors, the people of Jamrud Bazar now benefit from improved access to clean drinking water. Every cup of water provided is a reminder of how a practical project can make a lasting difference to people’s lives. May Allah reward everyone who contributed and make this project a source of ongoing Sadaqah Jariyah. Ameen.
