Masjid Sohaba – Solar Power, Sound System and Storage Facility

Location: Oke Odo, Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria

Background

A masjid is more than a place of prayer; it is at the heart of a community, bringing people together through worship, learning and shared faith. For the worshippers at Masjid Sohaba in Oke Odo, Ilorin, maintaining these essential facilities had become increasingly challenging. With rising living costs placing pressure on local families, limited resources made it difficult to carry out much-needed improvements to the masjid.

The Need

An unreliable electricity supply affected the masjid’s ability to maintain its facilities, while an ageing sound system made it difficult for the Adhan (call to prayer) to be heard clearly across the surrounding neighbourhood. There was also a need for suitable storage to protect essential solar equipment and ensure its long-term use.

Our Contribution

Ibrahim Trust funded and delivered 100% of this project, supporting the improvements from start to finish. This included:

  • New solar power system: Installed to provide a more reliable and sustainable source of electricity.
  • New sound system: Supplied to improve the clarity of the Adhan and announcements, helping the call to prayer reach the wider community.
  • New storage facility: Constructed to securely house and protect the solar equipment, including batteries and associated components.

The Outcome

The improvements have strengthened the masjid’s facilities and its ability to serve the local community. Worshippers now benefit from a more reliable electricity supply, clearer sound for the Adhan and a dedicated storage facility to protect the solar installation.

These improvements will support the masjid’s daily activities, helping it remain a welcoming place for prayer, Islamic learning and community gatherings. The benefits extend beyond the building itself, supporting the worshippers and families who rely on the masjid as an important part of everyday community life.

We are sincerely grateful to our donors whose generosity made this project possible. May Allah accept their contributions, reward them abundantly and make every prayer, every Adhan and every gathering a source of ongoing benefit and Sadaqah Jariyah for them. Ameen.
