Community Water Well Project – Orelope Community

Location: Kilanko, Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria

Background

For families living in the growing Orelope Community in the Kilanko area of Ilorin, accessing a reliable supply of water had become an increasingly difficult part of everyday life. As the community expanded, existing water sources struggled to meet demand, leaving many households facing shortages. The situation became particularly challenging during the dry season, when falling water levels made it even harder for residents to access the water they needed.

The Need

Access to water is essential for drinking, cooking, washing and maintaining basic household needs. With limited local supplies, some families were forced to travel considerable distances to collect water, spending valuable time and effort simply meeting their daily needs. A new, accessible water source was needed to support the growing community and provide a more dependable supply throughout the year.

Our Contribution

Ibrahim Trust supported the construction of a new community well in Orelope, providing a much-needed water source for local residents and helping to address the ongoing challenges caused by water shortages.

The Outcome

The new well has provided families with improved access to water closer to their homes, helping to reduce the time and effort spent searching for and collecting water.

It offers an important resource for everyday household needs, particularly during the dry season when alternative water sources become scarce. The project has also helped strengthen the community’s access to an essential resource, supporting the wellbeing of both current residents and future generations.

More than simply providing a water source, the well represents an investment in the community’s future, bringing greater convenience, dignity and relief to families who previously struggled to access sufficient water.

We are sincerely grateful to our donors whose generosity helped make this project possible. May Allah reward them abundantly and make every drop of water used a source of ongoing benefit and Sadaqah Jariyah for them. Ameen.
