Rural Masjid Construction Project – Hashaba Village

Location: Hashaba Village, North Darfur, Sudan

Background

For the people living in Hashaba Village, access to a dedicated place of worship had long been a challenge. Without a permanent masjid, residents often had to pray in open spaces or temporary shelters, leaving worshippers exposed to the intense sun and seasonal rainfall.

The community needed a permanent place where families could gather for the five daily prayers, children could learn the Qur’an and residents could come together for religious and community events.

The Need

A dedicated place of worship was needed to support the religious needs of the village and provide a welcoming space for the community to practise their faith.

Constructing a rural masjid would allow residents to pray together closer to home, provide a place for Islamic learning and bring the community together during Ramadan, Eid and other important occasions.

Our Contribution

Recognising this need, Ibrahim Trust supported the construction of a rural masjid in Hashaba Village in 2019.

Work involved appointing local contractors, coordinating construction with the village community, arranging the transportation of building materials and establishing the correct Qibla direction to ensure the masjid faced Makkah.

Construction took approximately four months, with local workers building the structure to provide a permanent place of worship for the community.

The completed masjid measures 9 by 6 metres and can accommodate approximately 100 worshippers at a time.

The project was successfully completed in January 2020, providing the village with a dedicated house of worship.

The Outcome

Alhamdulillah, the completed masjid now provides a place of worship for the people of Hashaba Village, accommodating approximately 100 worshippers.

Residents can gather for the five daily prayers, while children have a dedicated space to learn and recite the Qur’an. The masjid also provides a place for the community to come together during Ramadan, Eid and other important occasions.

What was once an open space has become a permanent centre of faith, learning and community unity. Every prayer offered, verse recited and act of worship performed within its walls brings ongoing benefit to the people of Hashaba Village.

Through the generosity of donors, the community now has a dedicated house of worship that will continue to serve generations to come. May Allah reward everyone who contributed and make this project a source of ongoing Sadaqah Jariyah. Ameen.
