Rural Masjid Construction Project – Alandolus Village

Location: Alandolus Village, North Darfur, Sudan

Background

For the people living in Alandolus Village, access to a dedicated place of worship had long been a challenge. Without a local masjid, residents often had to perform their prayers outdoors, on open ground or in makeshift shelters that offered little protection from the weather.

Others faced long journeys to reach the nearest masjid, making it difficult for families to attend congregational prayers regularly.

A local masjid was needed to provide a dedicated space where the community could come together for daily prayers, Qur’an recitation, religious learning and gatherings during Ramadan and Eid.

The Need

A permanent place of worship was needed to serve the religious needs of the village and provide a welcoming space for people of all ages to practise their faith.

Building a rural masjid would allow residents to attend the five daily prayers closer to home, while also providing a place for children to learn about Islam and for the wider community to come together in worship and unity.

Our Contribution

Recognising this need, Ibrahim Trust supported the construction of a rural masjid in Alandolus Village.

Work involved identifying a suitable and accessible location within the village, establishing the correct Qibla direction and carrying out the construction with the support of local workers.

The completed masjid measures 7 by 9 metres and can accommodate approximately 120 worshippers at a time.

The project was successfully completed in January 2022, providing the village with a dedicated place of worship.

The Outcome

Alhamdulillah, the completed masjid now provides a place of worship for the people of Alandolus Village, accommodating approximately 120 worshippers.

Residents can gather for the five daily prayers, Qur’an recitation and religious activities without having to travel long distances or rely on outdoor prayer spaces.

The masjid also provides a place for children to develop their understanding of Islam and for the wider community to come together during Ramadan, Eid and other important occasions.

More than just a building, the masjid has become a centre of faith, learning and community unity. Every prayer offered, verse recited and act of worship performed within its walls brings ongoing benefit to the community.

Through the generosity of donors, the people of Alandolus Village now have a dedicated house of worship that will continue to serve generations to come. May Allah reward everyone who contributed and make this project a source of ongoing Sadaqah Jariyah. Ameen.
