Community Water Well Project – Toumou Village

Location: Toumou, The Gambia

Background

For families living in the rural community of Toumou, access to a reliable water supply had long been a daily challenge. Residents often had to travel to distant sources or depend on supplies that were not always readily available.

With just 10 families living in the area, access to water was essential for everyday needs, including drinking, cooking, washing and maintaining good hygiene. The lack of a nearby water source made these basic tasks more difficult and time-consuming.

The Need

A dependable source of water was needed to make daily life easier for local families and provide a more sustainable solution to the community’s water challenges. A community well would give residents convenient access to water close to home, reducing the need to travel long distances to collect it.

Our Contribution

Recognising this need, Ibrahim Trust supported the construction of a community well in Toumou. Work involved identifying a suitable location, digging to reach an underground water source, and securing the well so that families could access the water safely.

The project was completed in December 2025, providing the community with a local water source designed to serve its families for years to come.

The Outcome

Alhamdulillah, the completed well now provides a reliable source of water for the 10 families living in Toumou.

Families can collect water closer to their homes, making everyday activities more manageable and supporting better household hygiene and wellbeing. What was once a daily challenge has become easier, thanks to access to this essential resource.

Through the generosity of donors, the families of Toumou now have a water source that will continue to benefit the community. May Allah reward everyone who contributed and make this project a source of ongoing Sadaqah Jariyah. Ameen.
