In the peaceful rural setting of Kani Kunda Village, community life is built on togetherness, faith, and mutual support. However, for many families, meeting basic needs—especially during difficult times—can still be a challenge.

During the blessed month of Ramadan, when generosity and compassion are at the heart of the season, a zakat distribution initiative was carried out to support those most in need within the village.

With the help of generous donors, zakat was distributed directly to vulnerable families in Kani Kunda. This financial support allowed households to purchase essential items such as food and other necessities, helping to ease the pressure many face in their daily lives.

Alongside the zakat distribution, food was also provided for iftar, ensuring that families had something to break their fast with at the end of each day. For many, this meant the reassurance of a warm meal during Ramadan—a time when no one should have to worry about how they will eat after a long day of fasting.

The initiative brought the community together, strengthening the spirit of care and unity that defines Ramadan. Families were able to observe the month with greater peace of mind, focusing on their عبادah and time with loved ones rather than the stress of providing meals.

Through the generosity of donors, the people of Kani Kunda Village were supported both financially and nutritionally during this special time. The impact of this effort goes beyond immediate relief—it brings comfort, dignity, and a reminder that they are not alone.

Every meal shared at iftar and every act of support given during this Ramadan continues to reflect the true spirit of giving—uplifting those in need and spreading compassion throughout the community.

Nigeria Masjid refurbishment (lloron Kwara state)

In communities across Nigeria, the masjid plays an important role in bringing people together for worship, learning, and community support. In the city of Ilorin, many neighbourhood masjids serve large numbers of worshippers every day, yet some older buildings require refurbishment to remain comfortable and functional for the community.

Working closely with local community members in Ilorin, a project was undertaken to refurbish and improve several masjid facilities so that worshippers could pray in a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.

The renovation focused on both improving the building structure and ensuring that the masjid had the necessary facilities to serve the community effectively. One of the key improvements was the installation of solar panels and battery systems, allowing the masjid to have a reliable source of electricity. This means that lighting, fans, and other essential features can operate even when electricity from the grid is limited.

In addition to the solar system, the project included the installation of new fans and lighting, making the prayer space more comfortable, particularly during hot weather. Toilet facilities were also built, providing essential amenities for worshippers attending daily prayers and larger congregational gatherings.

The masjid itself was also refreshed and restored. The building was repainted, helping to renew its appearance and protect the structure. New windows and doors were fitted, improving both ventilation and security. Inside the prayer area, new carpets were installed, creating a clean and welcoming space for worshippers.

Through these combined improvements, the masjid has been transformed into a more functional and comfortable place of worship for the community.

By working in partnership with local residents, this refurbishment has helped ensure that the masjid continues to serve as a centre of faith, unity, and community life in Ilorin. Every prayer performed, every gathering held, and every lesson taught within its walls continues to benefit the people who rely on it.

Thanks to the generosity of donors and the cooperation of the local community, these improvements will support worshippers in Ilorin for many years to come.

Nigeria Zakat distribution since 2025

In Nigeria, many families face difficult financial challenges when dealing with medical emergencies. Hospital treatment can quickly become expensive, and for those with limited income, the cost of care can lead to overwhelming debt and hardship.

At Kwara State University Teaching Hospital in Kwara State, patients from across the region come seeking treatment and medical support. While the hospital provides essential healthcare services, many patients and their families struggle to pay the costs associated with their treatment. In some cases, individuals are left with outstanding bills after receiving care, creating additional stress during an already difficult time.

In 2025, a zakat distribution initiative was organised to help address this need. With the support of generous donors, funds were distributed directly to ill patients at the hospital who had accumulated debts following their medical treatment.

The aim of the initiative was simple but meaningful: to ease the burden faced by vulnerable patients and their families. By providing financial assistance directly to those in need, the zakat helped patients settle outstanding hospital bills and reduce the financial pressure caused by their medical care.

For many recipients, this support arrived at a critical moment. It not only helped relieve the stress of unpaid medical expenses but also brought comfort and reassurance during a challenging period in their lives.

Through the generosity of donors, the zakat distributed at Kwara State University Teaching Hospital provided much-needed relief to patients who were struggling with the cost of treatment. The initiative reflects the spirit of zakat—supporting the vulnerable, easing hardship, and helping those facing difficult circumstances regain dignity and stability.

Thanks to this compassionate support, many patients were able to move forward without the heavy burden of medical debt, bringing hope and relief when it was needed most.

Gambia – Borehole

In Missira Village, the masjid is a central part of community life. It is where people gather five times a day for prayer, where children learn the Qur’an, and where the community comes together during important moments such as Jumu’ah, Ramadan, and Eid.

As the village grew, so did the number of worshippers attending the masjid from both Missira Village and the surrounding communities. With hundreds of people gathering regularly, one important need became clear: a reliable water source for performing wudu (ablution) before prayer.

Without a nearby and dependable supply of water, preparing for prayer could be difficult, particularly during large gatherings. Clean water is essential for worship, and the growing number of attendees meant that the masjid required a sustainable solution.

To address this need, a project was launched to dig a borehole for the new masjid. After selecting a suitable location within the masjid grounds, work began to drill deep into the ground to reach a reliable underground water supply. The borehole was designed to provide a consistent flow of water that could support the ablution needs of the worshippers.

Alhamdulillah, the borehole was successfully completed and is now serving the masjid and its community.

Today, the borehole provides clean and accessible water for approximately 2,000 people, including residents of Missira Village and nearby villages who regularly visit the masjid. Worshippers can now perform wudu easily before prayer, ensuring that the masjid functions smoothly during daily prayers and large congregations.

Beyond supporting the masjid, the borehole also benefits the wider community by providing a dependable water source for those in the surrounding area.

Thanks to the generosity of donors, the masjid in Missira Village now has a sustainable water supply, helping ensure that the community can continue to gather in worship with comfort and dignity for many years to come.
